Homemade Caesar salad topped with freshly grated parmigiano reggiano

Homemade Caesar Salad Dressing

With only 3 ingredients, this homemade Caesar salad dressing is so simple you can whip it up on a whim any day of the week.

This is the easiest dressing that you will make. With just 3 ingredients you’re likely to already have them in the house. Also, the simplicity of this recipe means that you’re not wasting any valuable dinner-making time.

The beauty of making your own dressing is that you can cater to your own taste, and in our household that means catering to our toddler’s selective taste. This Caesar dressing is what got my picky eater actually liking lettuce so I’m confident your kids will like it too.

I do have to give credit where credit is due. This recipe is Kyle’s creation and when he introduced me to it my first words were “Wow! That’s it?”. I could not believe how delicious it was and just how easy to make. I almost felt silly that I had been buying Caesar dressing all my life.

Preparing Caesar Salad Dressing

Ingredients

Mayonnaise: Use your favourite brand of mayonnaise. I prefer a milder tasting mayo for this recipe as its sole purpose here is to add the creaminess.

Parmesan Cheese: The standard grated parmesan that you find in the grocery store is perfect for this recipe.

Garlic: Garlic adds some sharpness to the dressing. If you aren’t a huge fan of the garlic taste use about half of the recommended quantity.

How to make Simple Homemade Caesar Dressing

As you can imagine this is a very easy process so don’t blink.

Peel and press the garlic into a bowl. I like to put it right into the bowl that I’ll be making the salad in. No need for extra dishes.

To the garlic, add mayonnaise and grated parmesan cheese. Mix everything together well. You want to make sure the garlic has evenly distributed within the dressing so that you don’t end up with clumps of it on your salad.

Tip: I promised we’d be sharing more uses for Dijon mustard since you had to buy one for our creamy Dijon chicken so here is the first.  Try adding a teaspoon of Dijon mustard for a little something extra. It’s a key ingredient, in classic caesar dressing.

Substitutions

Parmesan Cheese: I recommend to use grated parmesan cheese but if all you have is Parmigiano Reggiano or even Grana Padano these will also be great freshly grated. Just be sure to finely grate the cheese to make sure its well distributed across the salad.

Serving Caesar Salad

Add a head of romaine lettuce and toss to coat in the homemade Caesar dressing. Serve as a side to chicken, in a chicken Caesar wrap, or as chicken Caesar salad.

Storing this Homemade Dressing

Since this Caesar dressing is made of ingredients that keep well in the fridge you can make a batch and keep it for up to a week in an air tight container.
