Pork Souvlaki Pita Wrap

With lots of flavour, fresh ingredients and a convenient vessel these pork souvlaki pita wraps are a healthy and delicious dinner option.

Pork souvlaki pita wraps are a fresh, healthy and delicious lunch or dinner. They are so filling you’ll be surprised when you’re full after just one wrap.

This recipe is intended to help you use up the Greek dressing and tzatziki sauce that you already have on hand so you may not need to make all the ingredients

Preparing A Souvlaki Pita

There are a few components to this recipe but it’s all so worth it.

Make Souvlaki Pork (or Chicken)

The preparation is quite simple. Peel and mince the garlic and squeeze the lemon. Add all the marinade ingredients to a small bowl or measuring cup. Stir together until really well combined and set aside.

Cut the pork into cubes or strips then add them to a sealable container. Top the meat with the marinade and stir to make sure all pieces are well coated.

Place the meat in the fridge to marinade while you prep everything else.

Make the Tzatziki Sauce

Peel the cucumber then grate it on a fine grater into a strainer over a bowl or sink. Strain the cucumber of most of the juice.

Next, peel and mince the garlic.

Now, combine the grated cucumber, sour cream, salt, pepper and garlic in a bowl and

stir well.

Refrigerate until you’re making the wrap.

TIP: The ingredients below make just enough for this recipe however I highly recommend that you make the original tzatziki sauce which will give you enough for a few more meals. Tzatziki sauce makes a great dip, spread or dressing and it keeps really well in the fridge.

Prepare the Salad Dressing

Peel and mince the garlic and add it to a small bowl or mason jar. Add the remaining ingredients and stir or shake to combine and set aside.

TIP: Make extra dressing to have on hand when you need a dressing for a salad, bowl or wrap.

Cook the Souvlaki Pork

Now you’re ready to cook! Add 2 tablespoons of oil to a pan and once hot add the meat to the pan in a single layer. Cook until fully cooked through, roughly 4-5 minutes per side depending on thickness. The pork is cooked when the internal temperature reaches 165°F.

Make a Greek Salad

While the meat is cooking, make the salad. Chop the lettuce, wash and dry it. Wash and cut the tomatoes and slice the onion. Combine all the ingredients in a bowl, and top with sliced olives and crumbled feta. You can of course just leave all the ingredients separate and add them to the pita individually.

Assemble the Souvlaki Wrap

Spread one tablespoon of tzatziki in the middle of each pita. Next, add the meat and salad and top with a drizzle of dressing.

Close the pita and enjoy!

You can also cut the pitas in half and open them up creating a pocket. Add all of the ingredients to the pocket and you’re all set.

Additional Ingredients:

  • Cucumbers
  • Bell peppers
  • Rice
  • Pickled vegetables

Substitutions

Lettuce: You can use any greens that you like. Iceberg lettuce or spinach would be great in these pitas.

Tzatziki sauce: If you don’t have the time or energy to make tzatziki just add some plain Greek yogurt. Sprinkle with a little salt and pepper and that’s all you need to add delicious flavour.

Red onion: You can use yellow onion which will be a bit sharper than red onion. Another good option is sweet onion which will have a similary mild flavour to red onion.

Kalamata olives: green olives or even black olives will make great substitutes. Though the flavours are quite different they are equally delicious. Each of these types of olives will give you a hint of tangy and salty flavour.

Pita: If you don’t have Greek pitas handy you can always use a tortilla wrap. It won’t have the same fluffy texture but will make a great vessel for all the other ingredients.
