Easy mango salsa in a bowl with a slice of lime

The Best Easy Mango Salsa

This is truly the best easy mango salsa. It’s a little bit sweet, a little bit sour and has a whole lot of flavour. It makes a great topping for seafood and tacos, and a great dip for tortilla chips.

This easy mango salsa is a great way to complement any meal. The flavour is fresh and vibrant and the sweetness of the mango can turn any picky eater into a fan.

Mango salsa is a great way to get my family to eat more fish! If your kids love fruit they might just go for this delicious version. If they are not great with spices skip the cumin and chili powder to make the flavour more subdued.

Preparing Mango Salsa

Ingredients

green round fruit on white surfaceMango: Mango is a stone fruit with an outer skin, protecting edible flesh which surrounds a seed. Or actually a stone containing the seed, hence the name stone fruit. There are six different mango varieties with a unique flavour and texture.[1] Mango is high in vitamin C and contains some fiber for a healthy fruit option.

Bell pepper: Bell peppers are the fruit of a plant of which there are many varieties. The most common are red, green, yellow, and orange. The sweetness of red bell pepper is unbeatable in this recipe. Red bell peppers are high in vitamins C and A.

green parsleyCilantro: Cilantro is also known as coriander. They are in fact the same however the naming conventions vary between the Americas and other parts of the world. In America, cilantro is often referencing the fresh stem and leaf of the plant while coriander refers to the plant’s dried seeds. You will note that this is how I use these two terms. Other parts of the world refer to this plant as coriander and to its dried version as coriander seeds.

Red onion: Red onions have a purply reddish colour and are an important addition to this recipe. It has a nice mild flavour both in its raw form and cooked.

green lime fruit on white surfaceLime: Lime fruit is a green citrus fruit that is very sour. It has a very refreshing flavour but is often used in small quantities as that sour, sometimes almost bitter, flavour is very strong.

Chili powder: This powder is made up of various varieties of dried chilies. The chilies are dried then ground and combined into this spice mix. Sometimes other spices are mixed in as well which is why you may find that different brands have slightly different flavours.

Cumin: Cumin is a seed from a plant that is part of the parsley family. Though the plant is native to Asia and the Mediterranean, the spice is used in cuisines all over the world. I would describe the flavour as pungent and earthy. It is definitely a unique taste and as such should be used carefully as it can easily overpower a dish.

How to Make a SummerChickpea Salad with Tomatoes and Feta

Start by prepping the mango

es. Remove the flesh from the mango pit and dice it into ¼-inch pieces.

How to Cut a Mango

To remove the flesh, cut off the sides of the mango around the pit in the middle. Once cut, you can dice the flesh right inside the skin and then simply scoop it out with a spoon.

Next, wash and dice the bell pepper into similar size pieces. We’re dicing the produce relatively small to make sure you can get a little bit of everything in one bite. I recommend no bigger than ¼-inch.

Now, peel and dice the onion. You can slice it and just cut the slices into spears or do a small dice as I did. I change this up simply because it looks different once served.

Lastly, wash and chop the fresh cilantro and juice half a lime.

Now all you have to do is add all the ingredients to a small bowl, top with the spices and mix well. This salsa is best once it sits for a bit for all the flavours to marry.
