Steamed Green Beans Recipe

A delicious twist on steamed beans makes this side dish extra nutritious.

  • Vegetable Steamer or large pan

Ingredients
 
 

  • 400 g green beans or French green beans
  • cup olive oil
  • ¼ cup onion
  • 1 garlic clove
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • Pinch ground black pepper

Instructions
 

  • Cut the ends of the green beans off and wash the beans under lukewarm water.
  • Add ½ cup of water to the pot or bottom of your steamer and place the beans in the steamer basket. Cover and cook for 10-15 minutes or until the beans reach your desired texture.
  • If you don't have a steamer, pour a 1/2 cup of water into a large pan and place the beans in the pan as well. Cover with a lid and cook/steam. Keep an eye on the pan to make sure there is always water on the bottom. Add more as required until the beans are cooked.
  • While the beans are steaming, dice the onion and mince the garlic.
  • Heat up the oil in a small pot on medium heat. Once heated, add the onions and sauté until translucent.
  • Turn the heat down to low and add the garlic. Sauté for another 30 seconds, just until the garlic is fragrant. Remove from the heat source.
  • Once the beans are cooked, move to a medium bowl and pour the oil, onion, garlic mixture over the beans. Season with salt and pepper and stir until beans are coated.
  • Serve on the side of your favourite main dish.
