Cut the ends of the green beans off and wash the beans under lukewarm water.
Add ½ cup of water to the pot or bottom of your steamer and place the beans in the steamer basket. Cover and cook for 10-15 minutes or until the beans reach your desired texture.
If you don't have a steamer, pour a 1/2 cup of water into a large pan and place the beans in the pan as well. Cover with a lid and cook/steam. Keep an eye on the pan to make sure there is always water on the bottom. Add more as required until the beans are cooked.
While the beans are steaming, dice the onion and mince the garlic.
Heat up the oil in a small pot on medium heat. Once heated, add the onions and sauté until translucent.
Turn the heat down to low and add the garlic. Sauté for another 30 seconds, just until the garlic is fragrant. Remove from the heat source.
Once the beans are cooked, move to a medium bowl and pour the oil, onion, garlic mixture over the beans. Season with salt and pepper and stir until beans are coated.
Serve on the side of your favourite main dish.
