The Best Hot Pizza Dip

This is the best hot pizza dip recipe you will find. It’s simple, versatile and additive and will be a hit at your next party.

This hot pizza dip recipe is truly the BEST!! This is my mother-in-law’s recipe so this dip has been a family favourite for a long time.

I still remember the first time I tried it. Kyle told me just how much I’m going to love it but I was sceptical. Then I tried it and couldn’t believe how addictive it is.

Consider this your fair warning!!

The best part about this dip is that it’s so simple to make. And if you use our G&K Pizza Sauce I promise you this will become your go-to dip.

It’s also very versatile so you can cater it to your own taste. The recipe below is for a vegetarian hot pizza dip but if you would like to add meat go right ahead. You can add any of your favourite pizza toppings to this dip to make it your own. Just make sure to dice the ingredients.

If you are making multiple dips for a party however add some of these favourites to your menu:

Preparing Hot Pizza Dip

Ingredients

Dairy

Cream cheese: Cream cheese is a soft and mild cheese that is made from cow’s milk and cream. It’s smooth and spreadable when brought to room temperature, although refrigerated spreadable varieties are also available.

Cheddar cheese: I like to use old cheddar in this recipe to add a bold flavour. The longer the cheese is aged the sharper the flavour will be. Medium cheddar will also work as well.

Mozzarella cheese: Mozzarella is a stretched curd cheese. Though there are many varieties, for this recipe I use pizza mozzarella. It has a mild flavour and melts into a stringy texture.

You can buy cream cheese in many different flavours as well but we will just use plain for this recipe.

Produce

Green pepper: Green bell peppers are the most bitter of the bell pepper varieties because they are harvested the earliest in the growing season. They are a deep green colour and are extra crunchy. Though they pack less nutritional value than their red pepper counterparts they contain a similar amount of protein only slightly less fiber. Green peppers also give your daily required dose of Vitamin C per every 100g consumed.

Red pepper: The sweetness of red bell pepper is unbeatable in this recipe. Red peppers are the more mature version of the more bitter and earthy green pepper. Though they are technically a fruit, bell peppers are typically used as a vegetable in cooking. Red bell peppers are high in vitamins C and A.

Green onions: Also known as scallions, green onions add a fresh flavour to this dish. Use the green parts of the green onion for a milder flavour or chop up the whites as well if you like

a stronger taste.

Sauce

G&K Pizza sauce: A tomato-based sauce with herbs and spices typically used as a base on pizza. This homemade version is full of flavour and takes just 5 minutes to make.

Pantry

Oregano: Oregano is a plant from the mint family. It’s used as s herb and has a very potent flavour. Dried oregano is the leaves of a fresh plant that has been air-dried.

Garlic powder: Garlic powder is dehydrated garlic ground to a powder. It’s sweeter than raw garlic so it just adds a hint of garlic flavour without the sharpness.

Dried Basil: Basil, also called sweet basil, is an annual herb that is grown for its fragrant leaves. It is part of the mint family and is native to Asia. It is used in cooking all over the world for its slightly sweet and very distinct flavour.

Onion powder: Onion powder is made from dehydrated onions which are then ground. White, yellow or red onions can be used to make onion powder. It is a very common spice that is used in many spice mixes.

Chili powder: This powder is made up of various varieties of dried chilies. The chilies are dried then ground and combined into this spice mix. Sometimes other spices are mixed in as well which is why you may find that different brands have slightly different flavours.

How to Make Hot Pizza Dip

Take out the cream cheese about 30 minutes before making the pizza dip. If you forget we have a tip below to help you along in the process.

You also need to preheat the oven to 350°F.

TIP:  This dip is great to make ahead and then bake before you serve so feel free to make it the day before and store it covered in the fridge.

Step 1: Prep the produce

Wash and dice the peppers and green onions. You want to dice them fairly small to make sure you can get a little bit of everything in each bite. Set the veggies aside.

Step 2: Prep the dip

Add the cream cheese to a medium bowl.

TIP: If you forgot to take the cream cheese out to soften use a stand mixer or hand-held mixer to whip the cream cheese with the herbs and spices.

Add the herbs and spices to the bowl and stir together until everything is well combined.

Step 3: Shred the Cheese

Now you need to shred some mozzarella cheese and cheddar cheese. I like to use the coarse side of a box grater but if you prefer a finer grate then that’s perfectly fine.

I like to grate both cheeses into one bowl and then toss them to create a mix. This will ensure you get a little bit of each cheese in each bite.

Step 4: Assemble and bake

Now, it’s time to assemble the ingredients and turn them into a hot pizza dip. Add the cream cheese mixture to a 0.5-quart baking dish and spread it into an even layer.

Next, sprinkle the mix of peppers on top covering the cream cheese. Then it’s time to add a layer of green onions and finally the combination of the cheeses.

Bake in the preheated oven at 350°F for 20 minutes.

Substitutions

Bell Peppers: You can use any kind of bell peppers that you have on hand. The more varieties and the more colour you will add to the dip.  If you don’t like peppers you can skip them all together. Alternatively, if you want to make this pizza dip spicy add a layer of diced pickled Jalapenos or banana peppers.

Serving Hot Pizza Dip

This hot pizza dip is best served with tortilla chips. Depending on your preference you can use the rounds, scoops or traditional nacho chips. I like to use the scoops to maximize the amount of sauce per bite.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is pizza dip vegetarian?

This recipe is vegetarian. You can substitute the veggies for your favourites or remove them altogether. If you prefer to add meat, that’s also an option.

Can you make pizza dip in a crockpot?

Yes! This pizza dip is great in the crockpot. There are however a couple of things I would change. If you’re using a mini crockpot to make this hot pizza dip, mix the peppers and onions into the cream cheese mixture as well as half the cheese. Use the remaining cheese to top the dip. Cover with the lid and heat up for about 40 minutes before serving.
