There is nothing like making your own meals from scratch to feel like you’re feeding your family a healthy meal. This side dish is the perfect balance to any meal.

Preparing Homemade Baked French Fries

Ingredients

Potatoes: I use yellow flesh potatoes in this recipe. Yellow potatoes are a bit more sweet and softer so overcooking them will make them mushy quickly. White flesh potatoes are a bit more starchy and will hold their shape better so feel free to use white flesh potatoes instead.

Olive oil: I use olive oil for this recipe because of its mild flavour. Olive oil is the fat extracted from olives. The least processed is extra virgin olive oil, which I use in this recipe.

G&K All-Purpose Spice: A combination of spices and herbs, this all-purpose seasoning is made for meals like this. Make a batch in advance and always have it handy to add to your protein.

How to Make Baked Homemade Fries

Before you start the prep turn the oven to 400°F to preheat.

Step 1: Prep potatoes

Wash the potatoes well under cold water. I like to scrub them a little to makes sure there are no soil bits.

Next, cut the potatoes into ¼-inch sticks. I like to do this by cutting larger potatoes length-wise into 3 or four ¼-inch slices depending on how large they are. Then lay those slices flat and cut them once again into ¼-inch strips.

Step 2: Prepare G&K All Purpose Spice

If you don’t already have some G&K All-Purpose spice on hand you’ll need to make some to start.

All-Purpose Spice Recipe
When I say all-purpose I mean ALL-purpose! The G&K all-purpose spice is great on chicken, fish, roasted potatoes, fries, and more. Make a large batch and always have some on hand for last-minute meals.

Step 3: Season the fries

Next, it’s time to season the fries. Put the oil, salt and G&K All-Purpose spice to the glass baking dish and stir to combine.

TIP: You can also use a large bowl to combine all the ingredients if that’s easier for you.

Now add the cut-up potatoes to the glass dish and use two silicone spatulas to toss everything to coat the potatoes in the oil and seasoning.

Step 4: Bake the Fries

Lay the fries out in a single layer as much as that’s possible in the dish you are using. Place in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes tossing once or twice in between.
