The all-purpose spice emerged from being very bored with herbed chicken. I needed a little punch, particularly for chicken with skin on. There is nothing better than the crispy skin of a roasted chicken. Am I right?
Preparing All-Purpose Spice
There is nothing easier than making your own spice mixes. All you need is to have a pantry of herbs and spices and you’re all set.
Just mix all of the ingredients to make sure they are well combined. The colour of the final spice mix should be uniform throughout. You may find that the oregano ends up on top sometimes. If that is the case, make sure to stir right before you use it to distribute the oregano evenly.
Serving
The G&K all-purpose spice started as my go-to for any type of chicken. One day I ran out of time and wanted something quick for my haddock so I used the all-purpose spice with a squeeze of lemon. It turns out that it’s great on fish! Then I decided to go even further and used it on roasted potatoes and fries. Once again, delish!!
I am sure there are many other uses that you can find for this very versatile kitchen hack. In the meantime, start by using it on our Beer Can Chicken.
This recipe yields 7 tablespoons so you will definitely have more than you need for any one recipe. Use what you need and store the rest in an air-tight container.
