Bacon-Wrapped Jalapenos are the perfect appetizer to wow your guests. Though this dish isn’t kid-friendly it will surely please the grown-ups.
Bacon, cream cheese, jalapenos and an optional garlic aioli make these baked bacon-wrapped stuffed jalapenos the perfect appetizer to impress your guests.
At our house, they are a key part of date night, alongside our all-time favourite, poutine!
You can bake them in the oven, grill them on the barbecue or fry them in the air fryer. They are going to be delicious any way you cook them.
But caution, THEY ARE SPICY! Please warn your guests. I wasn’t expecting them to be that spicy and was running around like a maniac looking for water.
I’m a bit of a weakling when it comes to spice but not usually this bad. I’d love to hear from you if you think they’re spicy or not.
Preparing Baked Bacon-Wrapped Stuffed Jalapenos
Ingredients
Jalapenos: A jalapeno is a type of chili pepper. It is medium in size, usually green, though it does turn a bright red when very ripe, and has a Scoville scale heat rating of 4,000-8,500. Removing the seeds makes the pepper much milder and makes it easier to control the heat level.
Bacon: Bacon is salt-cured pork from different cuts of the back. It is typically sold in slices. There are also non-pork alternatives such as turkey bacon that can also be used.
Cream cheese: Cream cheese is a soft and mild cheese that is made from cow’s milk and cream. It’s smooth and spreadable when brought to room temperature, although refrigerated spreadable varieties are also available. You can also buy cream cheese in many different flavours, but we just use plain for this recipe.
Cheddar cheese: I like to use old cheddar in this recipe to add a bold flavour. The longer the cheese is aged the sharper the flavour will be. Medium cheddar will work as well.
Chili powder: This powder is made up of various varieties of dried chilies. The chilies are dried then ground and combined into this spice mix. Sometimes other spices are
mixed in, which is why you may find that different brands have slightly different flavours.Oregano: Oregano is a plant from the mint family. It’s used as s herb and has a very potent flavour. Dried oregano is the leaves of the fresh plant that has been air-dried.
Old bay seasoning: Old Bay Seasoning is an American spice mix made from various spices and herbs. Some of these include celery salt, black pepper, paprika, cinnamon, ginger and 13 others. It’s most commonly used for fish and seafood but is really great on everything.
How to Make Baked Bacon-Wrapped Stuffed Jalapenos
The process is simple but can get a little bit messy. So, get your gloves and roll up your sleeves. I promise it’s worth it!
Make the Stuffing
We’ll start with the stuffing.
Grate the cheddar cheese and combine all of the stuffing ingredients in a small bowl.
Mix everything thoroughly making sure that all the spices are well distributed.
Stuff, Wrap and Bake
Next, you need to prep the jalapenos. Wash the peppers, cut off the stems, cut them in half length-wise and remove the seeds. I recommend you use gloves for this part as I regularly rub my eye an hour later thinking that I managed to wash off the spice. New flash….it doesn’t wash off that easily.
NOTE: You can leave the stems on the jalapenos, just remove the seeds. Leaving the stems on will help hold in the stuffing.
Next, get your bacon ready. You will need 12 slices.
Turn on the oven to preheat at 400°F.
All that’s left to do is stuff and wrap the jalapenos.
Divide the stuffing into 12 sections. See our video below on the easiest way to do this.
Take each section of stuffing and place in each jalapeno half. Spread it around to will the pepper half.
The last step is to wrap one slice of bacon around each pepper half. I like to start at the tip and work my way down. As I wrap I stretch the bacon slice slightly to make sure it’s on tightly.
Place the wrapped jalapenos on a lined cookie sheet and bake in the oven for 20 minutes.
Then turn on the broiler and bake for another 2 minutes.
Remove from the oven and you can place the bacon-wrapped jalapenos on some paper towel to absorb any excess fat.
