Maple brown sugar carrots as a side dish to Caesar salad and meatloaf

Maple Brown Sugar Glazed Carrots

Maple brown sugar carrots are the best way to spruce up carrots, and the easiest way to get your toddler to eat them. This recipe is super simple and oh so delicious!

Maple brown sugar carrots are sure to be a hit at any family table. They are tender and sweet and so very simple to make.

I learned about this simple dish much too late in life. My thanksgiving dinners haven’t been the same since.

This dish is a staple at most holiday meals around here because, well… why not? It’s just so simple and delicious that it would be silly not to make them.

With just four ingredients and five easy steps, you can have a family-friendly side dish ready. And the best part is that it bakes in the oven while you get the rest of your dinner ready. Nothing better than an easy dish that requires little work.

Preparing Maple Brown Sugar Glazed Carrots

Ingredients

baby carrotsCarrots: This root vegetable is slightly sweet, bright and filled with vitamin A and fibre. Baby-cut carrots are just smaller pieces cut from a larger carrot. Baby carrots, which we use in this recipe, are young carrots that are picked early in their growing cycle.

Butter: Butter is churned milk or cream and is high in fat. It is solidified when refrigerated, holds a semi-soft, spreadable consistency at room temperature, or can be liquefied when heated.

Brown sugar: Brown sugar is a mixture of white sugar and molasses. Molasses is responsible for the darker colour. We use dark brown sugar for this recipe but any brown sugar will do.

honey filled bottle on the tableMaple syrup: Maple syrup is made from the sap of various maple trees. It contains manganese and vitamin B and is a great complement to already sweet carrots.

How to Make Maple Glazed Carrots

This recipe is super quick to prep.

Start by preheating the oven to 400°F.

Next, melt the butter in a small bowl in the microwave for 20 seconds. You can also do this in a small pot if the microwave is not an option.

melted buter

Once the butter is melted, add the brown sugar and maple syrup and stir until the sugar has dissolved.

Next, line a baking dish with parchment paper. I used a 9”x9” glass dish but you can use any size that allows you to bake the carrots in one layer. Add the carrots and the sauce to the dish and stir to coat.

Place the dish in the oven and bake for 30 minutes.

The carrots will be very hot when they come out of the oven so wait a few minutes before serving them to your kiddos.

Substitutions

Maple Syrup: You can substitute the maple syrup with honey; however, this will naturally change the recipe from maple glazed to honey glazed. This is not bad as long as maple syrup wasn’t your requirement.

Carrots: You can use any type of carrots you like just make sure to cut them into ½-inch pieces. I often like to use rainbow carrots to give

the table an extra fun look.

Serving Maple Glazed Carrots

Maple brown sugar carrots are the perfect side dish. They are sweet, tender and bright. They tend to appear on most holiday tables, so of course, I recommend them for your next holiday dinner.
