Homemade Black Bean Burgers Recipe

These black bean burgers are so full of flavour and the perfect way to add a plant-based meal to your weekly menu.

  • 1 black beans 16oz
  • ¼ cup red onion
  • ¼ cup red bell pepper
  • ½ tbsp dried coriander
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp bread crumbs
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions
 

  • Open a can of black beans, drain and rinse under cold water. Add a third, up to half, of the can to a food processor or blender. Set the other half aside.

  • Next prep the veggies. Dice the onion and red bell pepper into small pieces. Add to the food processor or blender.

  • Now add all the spices, egg and bread crumbs and blend until all ingredients are mixed.

  • Add the remaining beans to the blender and stir using a spatula. You may choose to move the mixture and the whole beans to a medium bowl at this point.

  • Put the flour in a small bowl.

  • Divide the black bean mixture into 4 and make patties out of each quarter. Dredge each patty in the flour on both sides and set it aside.
  • Heat up the oil in a large skillet. Once hot add the burgers to the pan.

  • Fry for 5 minutes on each side on medium heat.
  • Serve on a bun, on lettuce or just eat it on its own with a side salad.

Notes

Note 1: If you don’t have either a blender or food processor, you can mash the back beans using a potato masher, then stir in all the other ingredients.
Note 2: Nutritional information is just for the black bean burgers patties, it does not include buns or toppings.
